Our team is comprised of highly esteemed diagnosticians who incorporate transparency and collaboration in every step of the assessment process. We understand that patients who need treatments and accommodations require a diagnosis given by qualified providers. AB Psych Consulting psychologists guide you through the evaluation process so that you are informed every step of the way. We specialize in the following psychological evaluations:

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a pervasive developmental disorder that typically manifests as a combination of deficits in social functioning and communication as well as multiple unusual behaviors including repetitive movements, unusual sensory-related behaviors (e.g., aversion to certain textures, close inspection of objects, aversion to loud noises, etc.), and rigid adherence to routines/rituals. Thorough evaluations for ASD must incorporate data from parent report and observational data gathered from direct observation.

Learning Disability

In the simplest terms, learning disability, or specific learning disorder, equates to difficulties in reading, writing, or mathematics. Such difficulties make it hard for students to learn in a typical classroom, necessitating additional measures (e.g., tutoring, learning in a smaller class setting, etc.) to acquire skills/knowledge in these areas.

ADHD

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is broken down into three different presentations: predominantly inattentive presentation, predominantly hyperactive/impulsive presentation, and combined presentation. Adequate ADHD evaluations start with the confirmation of symptoms of inattention and hyperactivity occurring in at least two settings such as home and school/work. Alternate explanations such as anxiety or depression as well as comprehension deficits are ruled out as well to ensure that these conditions are not misdiagnosed and treated with ADHD-specific medications.

Intellectual Developmental Disability (Formerly Intellectual Disability)

Intellectual Developmental Disability (IDD) is detected with proper intelligence testing and ratings-based instruments to measure adaptive behaviors.

ABA Services

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services emphasize the understanding that:

  • Behaviors are affected by their environment
  • Behaviors can be strengthened or weakened by their consequences
  • Behavior changes are more effective with positive instead of negative consequences

ABA interventions tackle specific behaviors that parents would like to address. ABA uses systematic approaches to extinguish, modify, or increase behaviors. Our clinicians provide such services in the home.

Psychiatric Medication

Medication treatment affect behavior by influencing brain chemicals. Such treatments are most effective in conjunction with therapy.
